Coach Edi Suwarto has 20 years
coaching experience. Former the youngest member of Indonesian Fencing Team for
SEA Games XIV/1987, he is the owner
and expert board of B Sport Management. As an athlete, he achieved the 1st Gold medal for Indonesia in SEA Games XVII/1995, three times in a role
National Games in 1993 to 2000, and awarded as
the best male athlete in West Java in 2000.
He assisted his father for coaching in the Karawang Fencing Club in 1992
while he got the fencing coach certificate from Olympic Solidarity
program in 1997. After spent about 7 years of work as a national fencing coach for Department of Youth & Sport
of Brunei Darussalam and National Sport Council of
Malaysia, he went back to Indonesia in 2010 as a head coach in the National Fencing Team for SEA Games XXVI/2011.
Besides
coaching, he also a certified FIE (Federation Internationale d’Éscrime) Referee
for Foil & Epee and had experience in many national and international
competitions. As for now, he
is one of the Vice President of West Java Fencing Association who in charge in
development and high performance fencing of West Java.
He produced
high performance young fencers in foil and sabre. One of his young fencers, Yu
Peng Kean, is the 1st Malaysian who had won 2007 Malaysia Open in
sabre event in the age of 16. Later on, Yu became the only Malaysian Olympian
Fencer in London Olympic in 2012. As in Indonesia, his best fencer is Sinatrio
Raharjo who won Men’s Foil Individual & Team Gold medals in the National
Games (PON) XVII/2008 in the age of 17 and Silver medal in the SEA Games XXVI 2011. Now, Sinatrio is continuing his
study in Pennsylvania University, USA and training in Penn’s
Fencing.
